News: LG V30 & G6 Are Getting Android 8.1 Oreo

LG V30 & G6 Are Getting Android 8.1 Oreo

Attention LG V30 and G6 owners — Android 8.1 is coming to a device near you. While fans of LG's latest smartphones are still stuck on Nougat here in the US, we now have confirmation that Oreo's first major update will find its way here, even if we aren't sure when.

This update news broke alongside the scoop that the two LG phones will receive Google's "Android Enterprise Recommended" certification, which Google now gives to forward-thinking OEMs that meet certain user and software specifications. It appears this certification will be made in tandem with an 8.1 update to the V30 and G6, although no specific time frame was offered.

LG has released an Oreo beta for the V30 and G6, just not in the States. Chinese V30 owners can download and install the beta now, while LG seeded the beta to G6 owners in Korea. Apart from these two regions, the V30 will continue to run Android 7.1.2, while the G6 will run version 7.0.

For the time being, it looks like we'll just have to wait for both 8.0 and 8.1, at least on LG's devices. Plenty of other Android OEMs have already released Oreo on phones in the US, while others have released betas, or at least given us a confirmed time of release. Hopefully, with today's news, LG plans to make a US Oreo release a priority.

I guess I can write off Oreo for the LG V20.
