There are probably a lot of things you can do, but here's an easy one.

Go to Settings and find "Developer Options". Scroll down until you see a few settings that deal with transitions, which are Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale.

Select each, and change the values to ".25x". That should provide some noticeable speed improvements.
