New emojis are coming with the Android Oreo update for Galaxy S8 and S8+. Samsung Experience 9.0 has been updated to Emoji 5.0, adding 239 brand new emojis when you take into account gender and skin tone variants. While there are minor changes across the board, we wanted to focus on the newly created emojis so you'll know what's available to you.
New Emojis
With the new update, Samsung's emojis are now closer in line with its competitors. This was achieved by revising older ones (with one or two major revision) and the overall aesthetics of the new ones.
In terms of facial expressions, there are nine new emojis that come with the update. These include the fairly disturbing Face Vomiting, as well as Star-Struck, and Face With Monocle. My personal favorite is Exploding Head, AKA mind = blown.
The also more inclusive emojis that better represent the different walks of life around the world. Specifically, the child icon has more of a neutral look, making it more appropriate for different genders. Additionally, Breast-Feeding and Woman With Headscarf provide emojis that better represent the people utilizing them.
There are new fantasy creatures that include both genders. Now, mages, fairies, and merpersons are available to S8/S8+ users. They've even thrown in a couple zombies for good measure!
There are a few new food emojis such as Pretzel, Pie, and Takeout Box. There's also a handful of sports-related emojis such as Sled and Curling Stone. There's even a Love-You Gesture (which looks like a rock out sign) and Palms Up Together to help express some emotions.
With the updated list, users now have a lot more ways to express themselves. The new emojis are more inclusive, providing new ways of expression that better reflect reality. What do you think of the new emojis? Any stand out to you? Let us know in the comments below.
