How To: Purge Your 'Following' List with Instagram's New Sorting Features

Purge Your 'Following' List with Instagram's New Sorting Features

Is your Instagram feed a bit cluttered? Maybe you're seeing posts from people you don't even recognize. Perhaps the content isn't interesting. Whatever the case, it's common after years of having an account to follow too many users whose posts just aren't doing it anymore. Luckily, Instagram has an easy way for you to purge unwanted accounts from your following list.

On Feb. 6, Instagram announced the new review feature for accounts you subscribe to, and it works by analyzing your activity and interactions over the past 90 days to find users you tend to enjoy the most and the least. The top 50 accounts you interacted with least all appear in a simple list for each, so you can decide whether or not to unfollow them.

To review your follows, tap your profile icon in the navigation bar at the bottom, then tap "Following." Here, you'll see a complete list of all accounts you follow, but most importantly, you'll see "Least Interacted With" under Categories. Tap that, and you'll see a list of the users you've interacted with least throughout the past 90 days. You can also look at the "Most Shown in Feed" list too if you want, which shows the accounts with the most posts in your feed over the last 90 days.

Tap the "Following" button next to an account to unfollow it. If you're on iOS, you can also tap the ellipsis (•••) next to an account to open other options — "Manage Notifications" and "Mute" — if you don't want to unfollow them entirely.

Just updated your iPhone? You'll find new emoji, enhanced security, podcast transcripts, Apple Cash virtual numbers, and other useful features. There are even new additions hidden within Safari. Find out what's new and changed on your iPhone with the iOS 17.4 update.
