OnePlus unveiled its latest device — the OnePlus 7 Pro — Tuesday, May 14. Usually, the company touts a device with impressive specs, build quality, and price, all without sacrificing too much. This time around, however, OnePlus decided to include a Pro device without compromise, while retaining those core values, making the 7 Pro highly competitive against the "low end" phones of their competitors (the iPhone XR and Samsung S10e).
Now, not all OnePlus 7 Pros are created equal. The device starts at $669, well below that $749 price point for the XR and S10e.
At that low price, you get a phone with pretty great specs: A 1440p 90 Hz edge-to-edge display, retractable selfie camera, 48 MP primary camera as part of the new triple-camera system, 2.84 GHz Snapdragon 855 with the Adreno 640 GPU, 4,000 mAh battery, and an upgraded in-display fingerprint sensor, just to name some highlights.
The base model 7 Pro comes with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Not too shabby, especially for the price. By upping the price to $699, and you get 8 GB of RAM with 256 GB of internal storage. However, if you give OnePlus the full $749, you'll find your money well spent. That same 256 GB of storage, plus an insane 12 GB of RAM.
Just for comparison, at $749, Samsung will hand you an S10e with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, with a 1080p display, 12 MP primary shooter, 2.73 GHz Snapdragon 855 with the Adreno 640 GPU, and a 3,100 mAh battery. Apple comes in with just 64 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM — although iOS requires much less RAM than Android — an 828p display, 12 MP primary shooter, the Apple A12 bionic with Apple's custom GPU, and a 2,942 mAh battery.
While all three phones have their pros and cons in the spec department, you can't get around the fact that OnePlus has packed an insane amount of technology and high-level specs into a price point that other major brands seem to prescribe to their "low-end" flagships. The point here isn't that the S10e or XR are bad phones. The point is that OnePlus just wiped the value floor with both of them.
Buy the OnePlus 7 Pro.
