How To: Wear High Heels Without Any Pain

Wear High Heels Without Any Pain

Whether you love or hate wearing high heels, a pair of stilettos can be incredibly painful. You can feel blisters, searing pain, pressure, and stabbing aches long after you kick off those heels, but a really simple trick could help alleviate some of the issues caused by tight-fitting, wobbly shoes.

According to Kat Collings of Who What Wear, taping your third and fourth toes (if counting away from the big toe) together with tape will reduce the amount of pain you feel in the ball of your foot. Collings notes that the tape method works because it reduces the amount of strain on an important nerve, one that splits between the third and fourth toes and causes pain that shoots through the whole foot.

If you're still skeptical about the toe-taping method, Marie Helvin also recommends this pain-free method. In an article by The Guardian, Jess Cartner-Morley road-tested this practice and discovered that it does, in fact, work. Though not the most glamorous method of relieving high heel pain, the tape (or adhesive medical bandage) both alters your balance and slightly numbs the feet to give you a little more mileage in those painful shoes.

Unfortunately, Cartner-Morley does note that this taping method doesn't solve all of our high heel pain woes. This simply staves off pain for a while, allowing us more time on our feet and enjoying ourselves rather than remaining seated and in pain. After too many hours of walking or dancing, though, you might find your feet aching yet again.
