Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge Receive December Security Patch & Update on AT&T

Samsung's 2016 line of smartphones has a new update, at least for the devices on AT&T. The update brings the Galaxy S7 to version G930AUCS4BQL1 and the Galaxy S7 Edge to version G935AUCS4BQL1. Here's what's on the table.

The update features security fixes to improve protections for S7 and S7 Edge users, in particular, the BlueBorne vulnerability — really eight vulnerabilities in one — which allows intruders to take control of and spread malware to, at the vulnerability's peak, 5.3 billion Android devices.

If that isn't reason enough to download the update, AT&T is also pushing the general Android security patch for December. Other networks, such as T-Mobile, seeded the December security patch in the month of December. These included devices like the Note 8, as well as a roundup update for the Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note 5. AT&T is apparently playing catchup here.

To see if your AT&T S7 or S7 Edge has received the update, jump into Settings, tap "About device," then "Software updates." Hit "Check for updates" if necessary, then follow the on-screen instructions to begin protecting your Samsung device from these security weaknesses.

Of course, S7 and S7 Edge users are probably more excited about an Android Oreo update than routine security patches. There is no word on an official 8.0 update for S7 and S7 Edge devices, and the Oreo beta that's available for the S8, S8+, and Note 8 is not available for S7 models yet, and might not ever be.
